How to identify a movie or anime from a clip or screenshot

Choose the strongest clue before you search

If you still have the post, check its caption, comments and creator first. If the title is missing, choose material that shows the work itself rather than the repost overlay.

• A clear screenshot: keep faces, clothing, backgrounds and visible subtitles. Avoid a frame made mostly of captions or a reaction video.
• A short clip: keep an uninterrupted scene with understandable dialogue when available. A montage of several films may produce conflicting clues.
• A line of dialogue: search a distinctive phrase together with a detail such as the setting or a character. Translated subtitles may differ from the original.

On Android, share the accessible link, image or video with Potom. If a link cannot be read, try an available frame or file. A suggestion is a lead to verify: compare characters, scene, synopsis and whether the answer names the film, series or a different adaptation.

Keep the result with its source

Improve an uncertain result

• Try a clearer frame with recognisable details.
• Use a part with dialogue or subtitles.
• Compare the suggested work with the original scene.
• Correct the card if the analysis is wrong.

Heavy editing, blur, very short montages and platform restrictions can prevent identification. Potom cannot guarantee a match for every clip or restore a deleted video.

Find it again by the detail you remember

Later, search your saved library with the scene, atmosphere or reason you wanted to watch it. The useful outcome is a route back to a work you chose to save, together with the original context.

How to verify a suggested title

Imagine saving a short scene: someone walks along a street at night, a sign is visible and one line of dialogue can be heard. This is an illustrative example, not a real recognition result. A similar mood alone is not enough to confirm a film.

1. Open the original clip alongside the suggested card. Compare the characters, clothing and location.
2. Check the exact line of dialogue, name or sign visible in the frame. A distinctive detail is more useful than a general description such as “anime at night”.
3. Compare the year and format: a film, a series and a remake may have similar titles.
4. If the match is uncertain, keep the source with a note saying “title needs checking” and try another clear frame.

A poster or a plausible plot does not prove a match. If a restricted post cannot be read, try a frame or clip you can access. A missing result does not mean the work does not exist.
