Import Chrome, Firefox and Safari bookmarks into Potom

Prepare a bookmark HTML file

Potom reads compatible HTML bookmark exports containing addresses, titles and folders. A browser profile backup, JSON archive or ZIP of your entire history is a different format. Exporting from a desktop browser and moving the file to Android is usually the most convenient route.

Keep the original export so you can repeat the transfer if necessary. Menu names vary between browser versions; the required result is a compatible bookmark HTML file.

Check the export format

• Chrome: export bookmarks as HTML from bookmark management.
• Firefox: choose HTML export, rather than a JSON backup.
• Safari: use the compatible bookmark HTML export available in your version. If you receive an archive, locate the bookmark file inside it.

Renaming a JSON file to HTML does not convert its contents. Confirm the format before selecting it in Potom.

Open the import in Potom

1. Transfer the HTML file to your Android device.
2. Open bookmark import in Potom and select the file.
3. Wait for the links to be added to your library.
4. Check cards from several folders before importing another archive.

An import supports up to 5,000 links. Duplicate links are removed and folder names become initial tags. Accessible articles are processed in the background to extract their text and summary.

Review unreadable pages

Some links may be deleted, require a login or block text extraction. A saved link and a fully processed article card are different outcomes. Review important pages that could not be read, then keep or remove them as appropriate.

Processing can be paused and resumed. Import does not connect continuous synchronisation with Chrome, Firefox or Safari. New browser bookmarks do not automatically appear in Potom.

Make the first check useful

Find one article by a topic you remember, open its source and check the folder tags. If the structure works, transfer the next part of your archive. Share new finds through Android Share without repeating the export each time.

Check five links before moving the whole archive

For a first check, choose five familiar links: a public article, a video, a recipe, one repeated link and a page that requires sign-in. This is an illustrative exercise to help you assess the import using your own material.

1. Keep the original HTML file separately. After importing, find the familiar article by its title and open its source.
2. Compare the tags with the folder names in your export. Check that the repeated link did not create an extra card.
3. Let background processing finish for the accessible article. Read the summary and compare it with the original.
4. Open the card for the restricted page. Missing text does not necessarily mean the link was lost: website sign-in and readable page content are separate limitations.

If no links appear, check the file contents and export format. If links appear without analysis, check source availability and processing status. Avoid posting your whole bookmarks file in a public support discussion: it may contain private addresses and folder names.
